February 02, 2021

ITASCA, IL – The National Safety Council is proud to announce that Dr. Amy Harper, senior director of workplace training & consulting services, has been reappointed to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). The 12-member committee advises, consults with and makes recommendations to the Secretaries of Labor and Health and Human Services on matters relating to occupational safety and health.

“I am honored to continue serving on a committee that directs the national dialog on worker safety and health,” said Dr. Harper. “The increased spotlight on workplace safety in recent months makes this appointment an even greater opportunity to make a difference. The Council appreciates the chance to make recommendations that will help workers live their fullest lives.”

NACOSH members are appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent labor, management, safety and health professionals, and the public. Dr. Harper will represent management.

Dr. Harper has been employed in the field of safety and health for more than 20 years as a strategist, consultant and trainer. In her role at the National Safety Council, Dr. Harper works to strengthen the competency of safety practitioners, encourages organizations to mature in their safety journey and contributes to the science and practice of EHS. She heads workplace training, consulting and survey operations for the Council, helping clients take steps to move beyond compliance, implement safety management systems and enhance the capabilities of their safety practitioners in safety and health management.

“Through our representation on NACOSH, the Council is able to make an even greater impact in protecting worker lives,” said Mark Baker, vice president of workplace at NSC. “Having a voice at the table when it comes to workplace research priorities, regulatory matters, emerging issues and more allows the Council to better guide our members and customers to increased levels of safety maturity.”
